How to teach a sensor (Smart Reflect light barrier X0008998)

Smart Reflect light barrier X0008998

These working instructions refer to the sensor with the haprotec article number X0008998.

Basic information on the mode of operation

• This sensor requires a surface mounted at a fixed distance as a reference (e.g. insertion plate).
• The texture/ colour of the surface is negligible.
• According to the manufacturer, the distance between the sensor and the reference surface should be at least 30mm and a maximum of 300mm.
The sensor is taught for this distance and then detects deviations caused, for example, by a workpiece carrier passing through.

Teaching the sensor

The sensor is always taught to the reference surface (without product/workpiece carrier/etc.). After applying the operating voltage, the teach function of the sensor is active for 5 minutes (blue LED lights up permanently). To return to teach mode after the blue LED goes out, the sensor must be disconnected from the operating voltage and then reconnected. The taught-in configuration of the sensor is persistent, i.e. it is retained even after the supply voltage is lost.

A metal tool (e.g. screwdriver) is required for teaching, which is placed in the blue illuminated notch on the sensor for operation.

SET AS NORMALLY OPEN CONTACT

Signal active when light beam is interrupted. 1. Place the tool on the blue illuminated surface for approx. 2s until it flashes. The "qTeach" function of the sensor is now active. 2. Remove the tool and wait briefly (~1s). 3. Briefly touch the sensor with the tool to teach it to the reference surface and remove it again. 4. Tap the sensor again briefly to invert the output signal. 5. After 4s, the "qTeach" mode is exited again and the sensor is ready for use.

SET AS OPENER

Signal active when the sensor detects the reference surface. Same procedure as for 2.1, but omit step 4 (do not invert).
