How to teach an axis?

Setting & checking reference and limit switches

The reference and limit switches of the axis can be set relatively easily using the manual mode of the SEW Motion Studio. To be able to move the axis manually in manual mode, it must be enabled from the PLC. All the prerequisites required for this (e.g. control ON, locks closed, light barriers OK, etc.) must also be met here. The axis can now be moved carefully to the reference and limit switches.

REFERENCE SWITCH

The reference switch is usually located at the lower end of the travel range of the axle. The setting must be selected so that the axle can never be moved below the reference switch during normal operation. This also applies to manual operation or other manual travel commands and may also affect the correct positioning of the lower limit switch.
Limit switch

LIMIT SWITCH

The limit switches serve to protect the mechanics from damage. The lower limit switch must also ensure that the axis cannot be moved below the reference switch under any circumstances, otherwise automatic homing is no longer possible. The limit switches must also be checked for function after the position has been set.

Teaching positions

ON THE HMI

Depending on the assembly, positions can be set using different procedures. For the operator on site, only the variant via the HMI makes sense.

The Position Teachen button opens the Teach pop-up dialoque.

HMI

Use the drop-down menu Gewählte Position to select whisch position is to be re-teached..

The new value in the unit mm is entered in the Neu field.

This value is accetped via the TEACHEN button.

Profinet-DEVICE NAME AND IP-Adress LOST

In some cases, after power OFF / ON, it has been observed that the drive has reset the device name and IP address back to factory settings. This behaviour occurs when DIP switches on the unit's Profinet card are set incorrectly. The switches must both be in the 0 position. For a more detailed description of the function of the DIP switches, see the following excerpt from the manufacturer's documentation:
